Constructive Tool
In this session, we have learned about the constructive tool, its importance, and some of the applications and examples. Constructive tool are general purpose tools used for manipulating information, constructing one’s own knowledge or visualizing one’s understanding. It helps students to connect new concepts to their past knowledge rather than passively receiving information. The constructive tool enables descriptions of learner-centered training. It is important to integrate constructive tool in the classroom because of the several reasons. In the first place, it enhance learner’s ability to construct new knowledge using technology besides facilitating brainstorming and visualizing conceptual relationships. On top of that, it promotes critical thinking, motivation, and independence among learners. Moreover, it encourages students to develop their own thoughts and information. Knowing the importance of integration of constructive tool, we should implement this particular tools in the teaching and learning process. Some of the ways to integrate constructive tools in the classroom are: construction of simulations using PowerPoint in teaching and learning process, desktop publisher program to organize and present the ideas in attractive format, create your own simple webpage using google docs and communicate and share the ideas, use of application software such as word, excel, ppt, mind maps and concept maps.
The main focused of the
lesson has been on the concept maps whereby we learned how to create it and
implement in the classroom. It is also known as Cmaps. Cmaps is a constructive
tool which helps to graphically represent the knowledge and ideas about the
particular topic. It can be created manually or using digital tools. Steps to
create Cmaps:
Step 1: define your
topic.
Step 2: brainstorm and
identify key concepts.
Step 3: add concepts to
the Cmap.
Step 4: connect
concepts with linking words or phrases.
Step 5: organize and
arrange.
Step 6: style and
customize.
Step 7: save and share.
