Middle-Level ICT Integration
Today, we learned to
integrate new ICT technology in teaching and learning called PhET simulations.
PhET simulations is one of the interactive learning tool which helps to make
the learning more engaging and successful. There are features which is easy for
us to use and it’s appropriate for all the age group, its user friendly. I
personally feels that the incorporation of this particular tool in teaching and
learning will helps to ensure a convenient learning environment. It also makes
our learning easy, interactive and fruitful. This is because when we use this
simulations in practical, it somehow encouraged us to keep trying although we
are not that familiar with it in the first place. On top of that, it provoke
our thinking on how to use and employ those available features to make the
learning more interactive and captivating. Unlike traditional lectures, PhET
simulations encouraged exploration and discovery based learning which allow us
to make mistakes, learn freely at our own pace enhancing our understanding at a
deeper level. There are also features in the simulations which helps to make
the mathematical and science concept livelier granting the learners with
opportunity to have a clear picture about and grasp the content easily. That
being said, PhET simulations will be of great assistance in connecting the math
and science concept with the real world situations.
Some of the notable advantages of PhET simulations that we have discussed are; it improved academic performance and achievement because it enhances students’ engagement. On top of that, PhET simulation foster deeper conceptual understanding of scientific and mathematical concepts for it being a powerful tool that can be used alongside traditional teaching methods to create a more dynamic and effective learning experience. These are some of the merits of simulations that we are made familiar in the class. As a practical, we also learned how to make circuit connection incorporating the PhET simulation.
PhET simulations as a
whole contribute in wholesome academic achievement for it makes the learning
more intriguing. Step on how to use the PhET simulations:
Step 1: go to the
google page and search or type the link https://phet.colorado
Step 2: click on https://phet.colorado
Step 3: then select the
course you would like to create a simulations (in my case, I have chosen
physics as we are asked to make a parallel circuit)
Step 4: select circuit
construction kit: DC
Step 5: then design the
circuit the correctly using the PhET simulations.
Step 6: measure the voltage and current.
Design the ICT lesson
plan using PhET simulation for middle level of ICT integration.
Lesson Plan
Subject: Science
Topic: Three States of
Matter
Class: IV
Time: 45 minutes
Teaching Learning
Materials: ppt on the definition of the three states of matter, PhET simulation
on how the particles are arranged in the three states of matter.
Previous knowledge:
what is matter?
Lesson objectives:
By the end of the
lesson, each student will be able to;
- define the three states of matter correctly in their own words after the discussion in the class
- use PhET simulation to demonstrate how the particles of the three types of matter are arranged without seeking guidance from the teacher
- apply the concept of three states of matter in the real world by being able to lists its examples
Lesson introduction
(5min)
Greetings
Recapitulate the previous
lesson by asking several questions. (What is matter? What are some of the
examples of matter?)
Lesson development
(35min)
Explain the concept of
three states of matter in detail using ppt.
Activity 1
Every students will carry out this task individually whereby they will have to create a simulations on the three states of matter using the link provided.
They will be given with only 10 min to complete
the task.
For example,
Particles arrangement of gases
Particles arrangement of liquid
Activity 2: the students will discuss some of the examples of the three states of matter in pair within the given time framework of 10 min.
Follow up activities:
after 5min, students will share their findings to the whole class.
Lesson
closure (10min)
Let
the students summarize the key ideas.
Let
the students come up with the question in the areas which they are unclear
about.
