ICT Integration Model- SAMR Model
23/04/2024 Tuesday
In today's session, we have explore various ICT integration model. There are basically three types of ICT integration model and they are SAMR model, TPACK model, and ASSURE model respectively. The main focused in this session has been on the SAMR model developed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura. We have learned that the particular model was created mainly to share a common language across disciplines as teachers strive to personalize learning and helps students visualize complex concepts. On top of that, SAMR model is seen as one of the power tools during the remote and blended learning when integrated classroom technology makes teaching and learning a more seamless experience for educators and students. The abbreviation SAMR is respectively known as Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition. The point to be noted under the SAMR model is that, Substitution and Augmentation is just for the enhancement of what has been learned in the classroom. After that, we design a lesson plan for primary children employing the two levels of ICT using the substitution and augmentation components from the SAMR model. While planning the lesson plan, i choose the topic "Parts of a Plant" from class four science. Under that, I gave a clear a picture on how to integrate the ICT technology with the usage of S&A from SAMR model.
Design lesson plan for primary children with two levels of ICT using the SAMR model integration.
Lesson plan no: 02
Teacher’s name: Thinley Wangmo
Subject: Science
Topic: Parts of a Plant
Class: V
Time: 45 minutes
Teaching learning materials:
- Video clip, images (diagram of the parts of a plant), google docs, quiz link.
ICT Model: SAMR
Previous Knowledge:
Plants are living things.
Lesson Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, each student will be able to;
identify the parts of a plant on their own after the discussion in the class without seeking guidance from teacher and peers
draw and label the parts of a plant accurately on their own after the teachers explanation and watching the video without referring to textbook
apply the concepts of a plant in a real world setting
Lesson Introduction (7 min)
Greetings
Introduce the lesson by letting the students watch the video which is about the parts of a plant.
After they are done watching the video,
Probe students with the questions (Are you able to learn something from the video that you have just watched? Do you think that plants are important in our life?)
Lesson Development (30 min)
Information input (9 min)
Explain in detail the parts of a plant.
Clearly point out the parts of a plant.
To further give a clear picture of the parts of a plant, show them the picture or image of the labelled parts of a plant.
Activity 1 (10 min)
Instruction/direction:
The students will carry out the activity individually.
Ask the students to open the google docs and answer the questions being projected on the projector as follows
I. What are some of the parts of a plant?
II. Draw and label the parts of a plant correctly and appropriately.
Activity 2 (6 min)
Instruction:
The students will be divided into 6 groups of 4-5 members.
First give individual students the time (think time) to come up with the importance of plants.
Then ask the students to contribute their points in their respective group.
The students will probe each other about the points they have come up with.
Follow up Activity (5 min)
After the discussion, one member from each group will share the notable importance of plants to the whole class after their discussion in a group.
Lesson Closure (8 min)
Randomly have 4-5 students summarize the key points of the lesson.
Teacher will repair it if the students miss any key ideas of the lesson.
Teacher will briefly summarize the key aspects or highlights of the lesson.
To check the level of understanding about the concepts of the parts of a plant, conduct a quiz as a final activity of the session.
After finishing with the quiz, make the students aware of the topic they will be learning about in the next session (i.e. functions of the parts of a plant).
